Do heat pumps work in cold weather?
Yes, heat pumps work efficiently in the UK climate, even during colder months. They are designed to operate effectively in temperatures as low as -20°C. In fact, heat pumps are widely used in colder climates such as Norway, Sweden, and Finland, where winters are much harsher than in the UK. These countries have seen over 40% of households adopt heat pump technology due to its reliability and efficiency in maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures, even in extreme cold.
Is there a warranty with the heat pump installation?
Yes, all qualified installers we work with are required to provide a minimum five-year product and workmanship warranty on the heat pump, which is backed by a five-year insurance-backed guarantee. This ensures that your investment is protected and gives you peace of mind that issues within the warranty period will be covered.
Am I eligible for a heat pump grant?
The government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers a £7,500 grant towards the installation of a heat pump and as of May 2024, the requirement for cavity wall or loft insulation to be eligible for this grant has been removed. This makes the grant more accessible, limiting the criteria to the following:
- You own the property and it’s not a new-build or social housing. If your property is self-built or you are unsure about this criteria, please check the government’s guidance here.
- You are replacing a fossil fuel heating system, including electric boilers.
- You have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). If you don’t have an EPC yet, the process is quick and easy so you can still obtain one while arranging the installation with your installer. You can check if you have a valid EPC here.
How do I know if my house is suitable?
Our registration process is designed to help determine whether your home is suitable for a heat pump installation. Initially, this process screens out properties that don't meet basic requirements, such as:
- Not owning the property in question.
- Lack of space for a heat pump or a hot water cylinder.
If your home passes these initial checks, the next step involves detailed assessments by a vetted installer. After accepting your Personal Offer they will conduct remote and on-site surveys to evaluate the specific characteristics of your property, ensuring that a heat pump can be effectively installed and operated.
If it's determined after these assessments that your property isn’t suitable for a heat pump, the process will end there, and you'll receive your survey deposit back in full. This ensures you have peace of mind and clarity before proceeding with any installation.
