The Colorado Home Energy Rebate Program is designed to help eligible Coloradans lower the upfront cost of home energy upgrades, including high-efficiency electric appliances and whole-home energy efficiency improvements.

According to the Colorado Energy Office, the program includes two rebate pathways: Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates, known as HEAR, and Home Efficiency Rebates, known as HER. HEAR supports high-efficiency electric appliances and other upgrades, including heat pumps, while HER supports broader whole-home energy efficiency improvements. HER has a set criteria and is available to households living in a manufactured/mobile home (see what counts as a mobile home here).

For many households, these rebates can make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable. However, there has been an important update for households in Colorado’s Front Range.

HEAR rebate update for the Front Range

The Colorado Energy Office has confirmed that the HEAR Single-Family Program for Region 1, the Front Range, is now closed. This means that any project proposals submitted after April 27, 2026 for Region 1 will not be reviewed and, consequently will not be receiving any HEAR rebates or funding.

While the state energy office did confirm that “...if Region 1 funding becomes available again in the future, we will provide an update to registered contractors”, there is unlikely to be additional funding in the short to medium term.

Which Colorado counties are included in Region 1?

Region 1 includes the following Front Range counties:

Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, El Paso, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Teller, and Weld counties.

Is HEAR still available in other parts of Colorado?

Yes. Region 2, which includes all other Colorado counties, is still accepting HEAR applications.

You can view the HEAR Dashboard here to keep updated on funding availability.

What HEAR rebates may cover

The Colorado Energy Office states that HEAR rebates are available to eligible low- and moderate-income households for high-efficiency electric appliances and other upgrades. Rebate amounts depend on home type, household income level, installed improvements, and other program requirements.

Eligible HEAR upgrades listed by the Colorado Energy Office include:

  • Cold climate heat pumps for space heating and cooling
  • Heat pumps for space heating and cooling
  • Heat pump water heaters
  • Electric stoves, cooktops, ranges, or ovens
  • Electric panels
  • Insulation, air sealing, and ventilation
  • Electric wiring

For heat pumps, the Colorado Energy Office lists a maximum rebate of up to $8,000 for a cold climate heat pump and up to $3,000 for a heat pump for space heating and cooling.

What does this mean for Front Range households?

If you live in one of the Region 1 counties listed above, new HEAR rebate project proposals are no longer being accepted at this time.

However, this does not mean your heat pump plans have to stop. The Switch Together program remains open and available to help households in Colorado access more affordable heat pump packages through a simple process, with vetted contractors.

Additional heat pump incentives may be on the way as well, in particular through the Denver Regional Council of Government’s (DRCOG) Power Ahead Colorado program, which plans to add a “point of sale” rebate for ENERGY STAR rated, cold climate heat pumps starting this summer!

Switch Together is still open

Switch Together continues to support Colorado Front Range households who are interested in installing a heat pump. Our program helps make the process easier by connecting households with trusted contractors and competitive group-buying offers.

The current program is open until July 1. Please register your interest in order to see your Switch Together Heat Pumps Personal Offer.
